Bridging the Gap between Preschool and Elementary

The transition from preschool to Kindergarten is a big step that includes more responsibility and independence. Our Kindergarten Program is designed to bridge the gap between Preschool and Elementary.

Our Kindergarten Program prepares children for future school success and places greater emphasis on academics and learning to read. In addition, our kindergarteners take part in a daily “special” in one of the following subjects: Physical Education, Music, Art, Library and Computer.

Our curriculum is designed not only to meet but also to exceed the state standards in each of the following areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Physical Development/Health, Fine Arts, and Social/Spiritual Development. We encourage our students to become active participants in their learning experiences while supporting their individual growth and development.

Meet the Teacher

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Ms. West3My name is Ms. Shannon West and I teach Kindergarten. I graduated from Radford University with a Masters’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Special Education. I am dually licensed and certified to teach Pre-Kindergarten through Third Grade as well as Special Education from birth through age five.

Though Virginia is home to me, most of my life was spent abroad. During my travels, I gained a wealth of cultural experience which I employ in my classroom. I strive to create an atmosphere that embraces diversity, encourages exploration, and allows children to grow, have fun and feel free to develop their personalities.

Most of all, I am passionate about reaching each child with Christ’s message and helping them develop their own personal relationship with Him. My ultimate goal is to foster a lasting love of learning in children and a love for God that propels them towards bright futures.
